DAY TRIPS FROM HOTEL SCHLOSS BERG

There are numerous day trips that I suggest for our guests at Hotel Schloss Berg. After a leisurely buffet breakfast in our lakeside dining room, you can easily enjoy the following side trips and return to the hotel in time for late afternoon relaxation and dinner in our restaurant.

MUNICH SIGHTSEEING AND SHOPPING: Catch a rapid rail express train from nearby Starnberg Nord Station, departing every 20 minutes all day. Get off at your choice of stations in the city, close to the points of interest you want to visit.

CRUISE SHIP EXCURSION: The big lake cruise ships stop right at our dock several times a day for 3 or 4 hour excursions around Lake Starnberg, stopping at scenic villages. Excellent dining or snacks offered on board. 

VISIT KING LUDWIG’s CASTLES: Easiest done if you have a car. If you don’t, day car rental is available in Starnberg. Visit Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau Castle, Lindau Castle and the Passion Play town of Oberammergau in this day trip. Let me know if this trip is of interest, and I will send you a special driving instructions map. 

HERRENINSEL PALACE ON LAKE CHIMSEE: Only an hour by car near the town of Prein, east of Munich (1 ½ hours by train). You make a short ferry ride to the island where King Ludwig built a palace that rivals Versailles in size and beauty. Our guests too often overlook this wonder. 

ANDECH MONESTERY AND BREWERY: Only a half hour drive from the hotel. It’s not what you may be thinking: this is really an astonishing beer garden-restaurant. Situated on a hilltop with marvelous views. Andech’s beer is a favorite in Germany.

GARMISH-PARTENKIRCHEN AND ZUGSPITZE MOUNTAIN: An easy 1 hour drive (1 ½ hours by train) where you can play in the snow all summer!

Here’s another tip! The cruise ship that stop at our dock make a stop returning from their lake cruises. Hop aboard to go to Starnberg (15 minutes) and explore the charming town of Starnberg. The ship docks right at the S-Bahn station so you can go to town or Munich by ship and rail!

THE BOTTOM LINE! Why check in and out of hotels when everything’s in Bavaria is so close, so easy to visit in a leisurely way? There’s hardly another place so quiet, so beautiful, and so friendly as Hotel Schloss Berg to make as your sightseeing headquarters!
